Real Chance of Victory

Is it ironic that I watched the season finale of the VH1 reality series "Real Chance at Love" on the same day that the NBA season began? The dating elimination show week by week picks off lady after lady until the two D-List celebrity brothers, "Real" and "Chance", each select a woman to spend the rest of their lives with, or at least the next week or two. As it would happen the rapping siblings selected the women whom I considered the two best-looking ladies from episode one. This made me think, why even have an entire season of this mess, when we can tell who the contenders will be at first glance. This scenario is quite similar to the... more.

I Got Your Back: Rethinking the 3rd down back

Watching the Chargers/Steelers game on Sunday night I couldn't help but to think that we may have probably reached the point where Darren Sproles is a better running back than Ladanian Tomlinson. Sproles may be the smallest back in the NFL, which may be the reason he's only garnering playing time when Tomlinson is injured. At 5'6", he fits comfortably in the box of what many would label a third down back, which means playing the role of a runner who's job is to gather large chunks of yardage when the offense is in it's worst predicament, 3rd and long.

What also strikes me about the situation is that the San Diego Chargers have a knack for... more.

Does Boise State's struggle for acceptance mirror the Civil Rights movement?... Well sort of.

Martin Luther King once famously stated, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." If this be the case, then the current method of figuring out a college football National Champion is an ongoing threat to the civil liberties of us all. Year after year, we make compelling arguments to why we need to convert to a playoff system, and year after year the powers that be tell us that it is simply not possible to accommodate our demands. I'm not saying the NCAA is making the Boise State's of the world drink out of separate drinking... more.

On Monday Night we witnessed one of the more fascinating football games in NFL history. Never before had a team won an NFL contest when losing the time of possession by such a wide margin. The Indianapolis Colts 27-23 victory was yet another example of Peyton Manning's greatness in the clutch. The QB once known for his suspect play in big moments has transformed himself into one of the top late game performers of all time. However, the most fascinating thing about the game was that a whole year after the Dolphins unveiled the Wildcat offense on an unsuspecting league, the scheme is still thriving.

The Dolphins gained 107 yards on 12 plays... more.

Happy days are here again! We've braved the dog days of summer and endured the football drought for seven months. Oh sure Michael Vick, Brett Farve, and the T.O. Show gave us all something to talk about. (like which girl should T.O. settle down with, the black one, the white one, the real-estate agent, or the ex? Is there any way we can bet on this?) We've had offensive coordinators fired, and the whole Jay Cutler fiasco. But does the off season drama ever really compare to the drama of the season itself? In the words of Chad Ochocinco, "Child Please". I'm practically giddy for the new season, where do we begin.

Glad to see the 49ers are... more.

So it's that time again people...time to get the college football season underway. The major question that begins any season is who's going to win it all. Talent, coaching, strength of schedule, and luck all play a huge role in deciding a champion. Here's the rundown of the "official" Las Vegas odds on who will take the college football crown for the 2009 season.

7. LSU

The Bayou Bengals have to play the three other SEC powers (Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi) so it's tough to see them going undefeated. A one loss LSU squad can still make the national title game, but they'll be underdogs against the Gators, at Alabama, and would... more.
